Climate in Sigapore

Singapore is characterised by a hot and humid climate. It quite naturally enjoys a tropical/equatorial climate. The island does not have clear-cut seasons like summer, spring, autumn and winter. The weather is warm and humid all year round. Rainfall is almost an everyday phenomenon, even during the non-monsoon period.

Rice

Rice is one of the world's most labor intensive foods.Rice is the seed of the monocot plants Oryza sativa or Oryza glaberrima. As a cereal grain, it is the most important staple food for a large part of the world's human population, especially in East and South Asia, the Middle East, Latin America, and the West Indies. It is the grain with the second-highest worldwide production, after maize (corn).

Since a large portion of maize crops are grown for purposes other than human consumption, rice is the most important grain with regard to human nutrition and caloric intake, providing more than one fifth of the calories consumed worldwide by the human species.
Rice is normally grown as an annual plant, although in tropical areas it can survive as a perennial and can produce a ratoon crop for up to 30 years. The rice plant can grow to 1–1.8 m tall, occasionally more depending on the variety and soil fertility. It has long, slender leaves 50–100 cm long and 2–2.5 cm broad. The small wind-pollinated flowers are produced in a branched arching to pendulous inflorescence 30–50 cm long. The edible seed is a grain (caryopsis) 5–12 mm long and 2–3 mm thick.
Rice cultivation is well-suited to countries and regions with low labor costs and high rainfall, as it is labor-intensive to cultivate and requires ample water. Rice can be grown practically anywhere, even on a steep hill or mountain. Although its parent species are native to South Asia and certain parts of Africa, centuries of trade and exportation have made it commonplace in many cultures worldwide.

Planting and harvesting is done mostly with machines, but in much of the world these chores—along with weeding, and maintaining the paddies and irrigation canals—are still largely done by hand, with water buffalo helping with the plowing and preparing of the fields.

Wet rice is grown in paddies in lowlands and terraces on the slopes of hills and mountains. Most rice paddies and terraces are irrigated with water that originates above where the rice is grown. In most cases water from one paddy drains into another paddy. Rice has to be harvested when the soil is dry and consequently the water must be emptied from the paddy before the harvest and filled up again when the new crop is ready to plant.

Fertilisers

Since the early development of agricultural practices, people have always sought different ways to increase their crop yield. Notable are the use of organic and inorganic fertilizers, insecticides, fungicides, herbicides and improved cultivars. The early use of pesticides included a variety of substances such as urine, lime-soap suds, vinegar, tobacco, and similar simple compounds. In the modern days, many farmers like to use chemical fertilisers but due to the increased using of chemical fertilisers has negative thus I choose to use organic fertilisers.

Method of Farming

Irrigation
Irrigation systems provide water. When it comes to watering plants in our yards or gardens, most of us don't always like to rely on the weather -- we may use watering cans or sprinkler systems. This is irrigation at its simplest level. Besides that when you're a farmer trying to water an entire field these methods become impractical. Thus using irrigation system will help us to save our time when farming.

Farm Machinery
In the modern days, in order to make our jobs easier, we use farm machinery to plant and harvest our crops.

Growing of Rice

It resembles a grain plant such as wheat, develops brownish flowers and later become seeds which is the rice we eat.It matures in 3 to 6 months and shortly after seeds form the fields are drained which hastens plant maturity. When pods are fully developed the plant is picked and threshed the same as a grain to separate the seeds from the plant and then the seeds are dried for use. Rice containing some of the outer pod is brown rice and rice with no pod becomes white rice.
The variety of rice grown in Asia is planted and grown to maturity in flooded fields. First it is germinated in small containers the same as any seedling and after the first 'true' leaf forms, is transplanted into flooded fields.

Steps of Planting Rice

First, buy some rice seeds from any of the many online sources, then germinate them in an ebb/flow hydroponics system, periodically flooding the system with nutrient solution. Rice is slow to germinate taking as long as 2 weeks to a month so have patience.

Once the first true leaf forms, set the timer to flood the system for 12 hours, drain and immediately reflood for another 12 hours, over and over. Once seed pods form, reset the system to flood periodically keeping the growing medium slightly damp but not saturated.

After 2 weeks of this, harvest the pods and press them through a colander to separate the rice from the plant. Finally, spread the rice out on a screen until dry and it is ready to cook with...

Earning

Though the prices for all the machinery are very expensive, we can still earn by selling the crops to our neighboring countries such as Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei and more. Besides that, we do not need to buy rice from other countries as we have our own sources of rice. This can save the money of the country and also make Singapore become one of the trading centre. Once we buy a machinery, we do not need to buy more as it will not spoil or malfunction easily thus we can earn more as time go. The money we earned can use to improve the agriculture in Singapore thus making Singapore a well known country.
